Vertiv has entered into an agreement to acquire King Environmental Services Ltd. (KES), a European provider of liquid-system management, commissioning and load-testing services for high-density, liquid-cooled data centers. Vertiv expects the transaction to strengthen its thermal-management service capabilities across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Berkshire Hathaway CEO Greg Abel said power demand from AI data centers represents a significant opportunity for Berkshire Hathaway and Berkshire Hathaway Energy (BHE), while identifying energy scarcity as a constraint on AI expansion. He said BHE would not sell power to hyperscalers if doing so raised rates for other customers.
The US Department of Energy has announced nearly $2 billion for 31 grid projects across 26 states, aimed at increasing transmission capacity and operational flexibility. The portfolio is expected to deliver more than 23 GW of additional electricity capacity through grid monitoring and power-flow management technologies.
Visual Capitalist has compared the annual energy equivalents of three planned or in-development US data center campuses with electricity consumption in major US cities. Meta’s planned Hyperion campus in Richland Parish, Louisiana, is the largest in the comparison, at 43.8 TWh annually at full build-out.
Schneider Electric executive vice president Bin Lu said rising electricity demand from data centers and AI is becoming a constraint on US economic growth, with grid capacity increasingly concentrated in specific markets. Virginia illustrates the issue: data centers accounted for around 25% of statewide electricity demand in 2024, according to the TechInformed report.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore has signed an executive order creating a standardized state review process for data-center projects of 25 MW or more that seek state action. The framework requires assessment of grid, water, community and economic effects, alongside public disclosure of key project information.
Vertiv Holdings Co. has agreed to acquire Ireland-based King Environmental Services Ltd. (KES), expanding its fluid-management, commissioning and load-testing capabilities for liquid-cooled data centers and other critical facilities across EMEA. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026; financial terms were not disclosed.
A $430 million data center project known as Colovore Alliance is planned at Hillwood’s AllianceTexas development in Fort Worth, Texas. State filing information indicates construction is scheduled to begin in December and run for two years.
Voters in 28 local jurisdictions across six US states will consider November ballot measures affecting data center development, according to MultiState. The proposals range from bans on new facilities to moratoriums and measures intended to embed restrictions in local law.
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian has described three routes to monetize the company’s TPU infrastructure beyond internal use: cloud rental, direct equipment sales for customer on-premises data centers, and TPU capacity rental through NeoCloud partnerships. Google has also included third-party TPU sales in Google Cloud revenue.
Alibaba has announced a target to expand Alibaba Cloud’s global data center footprint beyond 20 GW by 2032, alongside further investment in AI infrastructure. The company also unveiled the Zhenwu V900 AI chip in Hangzhou.
BDx Data Centers has begun construction of CGK4, also known as AI Campus 2, in Jatiluhur, West Java. The six-building campus is planned for 640MW of total capacity, with work under way on its first building.
Alphabet and Georgia Power have agreed to fund capacity-uprate work at the Vogtle and Hatch nuclear plants in Georgia. The programme is expected to add about 96 MW of generation capacity, with Google covering the upgrade costs through a new tariff mechanism.
Chinese regions are using discounted electricity, subsidies, tax and lease concessions, and compute vouchers to attract data-center and AI workloads under the East Data, West Computing strategy. At the same time, authorities are restricting new construction in regions where existing data-center utilisation is below 50%.
A single source reports that Texas has effectively paused new grid connections, construction permits and environmental certificates for new facilities pending an ERCOT audit. In California, the same source describes new developer obligations covering grid upgrades, clean energy, water-use disclosure and local water infrastructure.
Intel and Taiwan-based AUO have reportedly agreed to co-develop advanced Micro LED packaging technologies for co-packaged optics (CPO) and high-density computing. Commercialisation, volume production and deployment in data-center systems have not been confirmed.
NVIDIA and Google are named among participants in the newly launched AEMA alliance, an initiative focused on dynamically adjusting power consumption at AI data centers. Its stated approach is to shift computing workloads when the power system is under strain.
Morgan Stanley has raised its estimate of the gross US data-center power shortfall for 2026–2028 to 57 GW, from 38 GW previously. Its probability-weighted central estimate for the net shortfall is 33 GW, reflecting higher expected demand from increasingly dense AI rack architectures.
Anthropic is in early discussions with Stream Data Centers over a direct lease for up to approximately 1 GW of IT capacity to house its own AI servers. No agreement has been signed, and the transaction’s scale, structure and financing remain unresolved.
